Hello and welcome to our Nursery class page!
We are Mrs Atkins and Miss Nuttall, and we are the Nursery class teachers. Working alongside us in the Nursery team are our teaching assistants; Mrs Sherwood, Mrs Davies and Miss H.
We are so excited to start our Nursery Adventure with you all. We are looking forward to all the lovely things we have planned this year, and we feel privileged to be a part of your journey through Greave.
Outside of school, we enjoy spending time with our family and friends, and our four boys between us keep us very busy!
In Nursery, we use 'Class Dojo' to keep parents/carers up to date with what the children have been up to. We love to share photos and exciting news to give you an insight into Nursery life!
To contact either Mrs Atkins or Miss Nuttall you can send a message via Class Dojo or email

Alternatively, our door is always open, and we are always here to support you and your family.
Warm Wishes,
Mrs Atkins and Miss Nuttall
Nursery Topic Web
Following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, we embed a range of exciting themes and topics to engage the children in their learning.
Uniform and Clothing
All children will need a spare set of clothes and underwear to be kept in their locker. In Nursery, we learn outdoors every day. Please send your child wearing appropriate clothes for the weather, wellington boots and raincoats on rainy days, hats, scarves and gloves on cold days, and sun hats on sunny days. We ask that everything is labelled and for a pair of wellies to be kept in school.
Snacks and Lunch
We are a healthy school at Greave. Fruit and milk can be provided in class each day and water is always readily available. Children can bring their own water bottle and snack box, please ensure items are clearly labelled. You can order your child's school lunch through the Dolce website or provide a packed lunch. We are a NUT FREE school.

Reading and Phonics
In Nursery, we have story time every day. It is important that children are frequently listening and talking about books, as it will broaden their vocabulary and spark their imagination!
All children are given an allocated library session each week. Your child will choose their own book which they will be able to enjoy with you at home.
Children in Nursery take part in daily Phonics lessons. The children will learn about and focus on 'environmental sounds' inside and outside of the classroom. These lessons are fun, practical and engaging, providing opportunity for all children to develop their speaking and listening skills. As the children progress through nursery, we will begin to introduce letter sounds, primarily focussing on initial sounds, where children will be learning their 'Sound of the Week'.
