Greave Primary School

Nurture • Inspire • Challenge • Succeed

Hi and welcome to the Nursery class page!

My name is Miss Miah and I am the Nursery class teacher. Working alongside me in the Nursery team are our teaching assistants; Miss Bennett, Mrs Sherwood, Mrs Davies and Miss Baskeyfield.

Everyday is an adventure in Nursery, I love the creativity and excitement that takes place. I particularly enjoy our storytime sessions and getting stuck into our creation station. I am extremely fortunate to be part of our pupil's first steps into their journey through Greave. I love seeing them grow and develop as they achieve their individual milestones throughout the year! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as baking for them. I love going on spontaneous day trips and holidays as I love travelling the world.

In Nursery, we use 'Class Dojo' to keep parents/carers up to date with what the children have been up to. We love to share photos and exciting news to give you an insight into Nursery life!

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to send a message on our Class Dojo page or email me at ameera.miah@greave.stockport.sch.uk. Alternatively, you can always speak to me at the door at the start and end of the school day or appointments can be made if required. We are always here to support you and your family.

Best Wishes,

Miss Miah

Nursery Topic Web

Following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, we embed a range of exciting themes and topics to engage the children in their learning.

Tour of the Nursery Classroom

Have a look around our Nursery classroom, we offer a welcoming and stimulating environment for all children to play, learn and flourish.

Uniform and Clothing

All children will need a spare set of clothes and underwear to be kept on their peg.  In Nursery, we learn outdoors every day. Please send your child wearing appropriate clothes for the weather, wellington boots and raincoats on rainy days, hats, scarves and gloves on cold days, and sun hats on sunny days. We ask that everything to be labelled and for a pair of wellies to be kept in school.

Children can bring their own water bottle and snack box, please ensure items are clearly labelled. You can order your child's school lunch through the Dolce website or provide a packed lunch. We are a NUT FREE school.

Reading and Phonics

In Nursery, we have story time every day. It is important that children are frequently listening and talking about books, as it will broaden their vocabulary and spark their imagination!

All children are given an allocated library session each week. Your child will choose their own book which they will be able to enjoy with you at home.

Children in Nursery take part in daily Phonics lessons. The children will learn about and focus on 'environmental sounds' inside and outside of the classroom. These lessons are fun, practical and engaging, providing opportunity for all children to develop their speaking and listening skills. As the children progress through nursery, we will begin to introduce letter sounds, primarily focussing on initial sounds, where children will learning their 'Sound of the Week'.

Home Learning

Here are some ideas to help your child to achieve their best and to continue to have a love for learning as they do in Nursery;

  • talking with your child about what they have been up to in Nursery
  • reading and talking about books together
  • singing songs and rhymes together
  • helping them to recognise their name and the letters that form their name
  • counting objects up to 5 and then 10
  • spotting and recognising numerals, shapes and patterns in their environment and when you're out and about
  • encouraging them to be independent, by putting on and taking off their own uniform when getting dressed
  • taking part in new activities and challenges with them, encouraging them to show perseverance through trying again and not giving up
