British Values

 British Values- Aspire Training Team

The government set out its definition of British Values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and the Department for Education introduced a statutory duty for schools to promote British Values more actively from September 2014, stating that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

The five key British Values are:

Democracy

The Rule of Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual Respect

Tolerance of those of different Faiths and Beliefs

We are committed to serving our community and recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith and changing nature locally and wider in the United Kingdom. We understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

We also understand our responsibility in preparing children for their next stage of education and for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We promote respect for and understanding of different faiths, cultures and lifestyles and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each child is central to our vision of ‘Nurture, Inspire, Challenge, Succeed’. This is evidenced through our inclusive curriculum and environment and through the breadth of opportunities provided for our children to understand democracy, law, liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.

British values are promoted through assemblies, RE and PSHE sessions and the values are integral to our aims and vision where every child within the school is seen as a unique individual. We value the diverse backgrounds of our pupils and families and challenge opinions contrary to the British Values.
