ELSA: A Teacher's Guide to Emotional Literacy Support | Key Takeaways

What is ELSA?

There will always be children and young people in schools facing life challenges that affect their ability to engage with learning. ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by Educational Psychologists to help schools support the emotional needs of students in their care. Research has shown that children are more able learn and feel happier in school if their emotional needs are met.

Our trained school ELSA's are Mrs Clarke and Miss Clayton

Our much-loved Hobbit House has unveiled a magical new makeover.
Hidden behind the library bookshelf, pupils can enter the “secret room” by pressing The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien — opening the door to a truly enchanting space.

This special room is now our dedicated ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) area, designed to support children’s emotional wellbeing and social development.

Our wonderful ELSA's are trained to work with pupils one-to-one and in small groups, helping them to build confidence, manage anxiety, develop friendships, understand emotions, and feel supported through challenges such as bereavement, anger management, and social skills.

The newly renovated space has been thoughtfully designed to feel cosy, calm, and homely — creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels supported and understood while at school
