Update from School - 24th March 2020

Hello from all at Greave! We hope you are working hard on the tasks set but still managing to have some rest and quality time with your loved ones. It’s been lovely to receive the positive feedback from many of our parents during this extremely challenging time.  Many families have been in direct communication with their child’s class teachers and myself and this is most welcomed.

We’ve loved hearing about everything from your whole family Joe Wicks workout and activities you’ve completed, keep it coming!

For the children of critical workers and vulnerable children we will continue to try and ensure the school remains open in order to support vital services.  The capacity for the school to open is very much dependent on staffing levels and I therefore cannot give any guarantees how long this is sustainable for but promise that we will continue to do our best given the current circumstances.

For those at home please bear with us, the school was only notified regarding closure last Wednesday during the press release from the Prime Minister.  Therefore whilst staff have worked hard to get some form of home learning resources and schedule out to you all, this is very much work in progress. Class teachers aim over the next few days to send out further information regarding how this will continue to work going forward so ask for your patience and understanding whilst we establish an effective home learning strategy.

Finally, we’re missing you all.  I confess a quiet school was something I’d craved on many occasions! However right now I can’t wait to hear the playground cheers and chatter upon your return.

Stay safe

Childcare Arrangements - 24th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you will already be aware, the Government have requested that schools remain open for key workers and vulnerable children
In order for us to do so we ask that should you need a childcare provision for your child/ren next week (week commencing /c 30th March) you call school today before 3pm. Telephone number is 0161 430 6318.

We are committed to supporting our families and for us to do this we will need to know the exact dates and times childcare will be required. To reiterate-

Key Worker
Health and social care
Key public services
Local and national government
Food and other necessary good
Public safety and national security
Transport
Utilities, communication and financial services

Vulnerable Children
Children supported by social services
Children with EHC plans (Education, health and care plans)
Young carers
Looked after children
Disabled children

Please do not send your child to school if you have other means of childcare available to you. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

Kind regards

Mrs Jennie Williams

Whilst it is a recommendation that the work set is completed, the volume of work undertaken is completely at your discretion. If you feel any task is inappropriate for your child to complete then please don’t, learning should still be fun and enjoyable for all!

The Picture So Far - 20th March 2020

Children in school

For the children attending school next week there will be no requirement to wear uniform. The academic work that will be completed in school will replicate the work that is set each day on the school class website pages for those at home in order that we continue to provide an equality of education.

Please drop off or and collect your child only via the main reception doors if they are attending 8.45-3.15pm. If your child needs care outside of these times please collec5t and drop off at the Year 2 bay doors. They will need a packed lunch and snack with them unless you have pre ordered using the school meal system. Forest school and PE will be part of the activities planned so we ask that they children leave in school a PE and Forest school kit.

At this stage I cannot state whether the children in school will be with class teachers or support staff as this is an ever changing picture dependent on a variety of circumstances. I can assure you that staffing will be adequate and safe ratios adhered to at all times. If for any reason we are no longer able to operate at a safe level you will be notified and we will do our best to find alternative provision.

Children at home

For everyone that will be staying at home we will aim to maintain communications via a regular phone call so you can update us as to how your child is getting on, obviously if you have any immediate concerns then please do call the number above.

Work will be uploaded each day on the class web page between 7am-9am. Any queries regarding the work set should be directed to the class teacher. Each class page will display the class teacher email address for this purpose.

Everyone

Thank you to everyone who has responded and provided the details of what provision they need. I am aware that over the next few days/ weeks your own circumstances will also subject to change and ask that you communicate any changes directly with myself. You can phone or text 07383431486 or email jennie.williams@greave.stockport.sch.uk

Finally, it is with great sadness that we close our doors today to the majority of our children and families. I feel extremely privileged to work at Greave Primary School with such dedicated and committed staff. The community spirit and teamwork that you have all demonstrated over the last few days gives me the strength and confidence that whatever lies ahead we will deal with, this time will pass.

I look forward to when I am writing to welcome you all back, in the meantime on behalf of all the staff we wish you good health and ask that you keep in touch with us during your absence.

Stay safe

Keyworker Communication - 20th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

Thank you for your ongoing support in these challenging times. As you will already be aware the Government announced on Wednesday that schools in England were to close on Friday 20th March and remain closed until advised otherwise.

The Government also requested that schools remain open for key workers and vulnerable children. This morning further details have now have been made available as to what falls within each of these categories

Key worker roles have been defined as employment that involves:

Health and social care
Key public services
Local and national government
Food and other necessary good
Public safety and national security
Transport
Utilities, communication and financial services
Vulnerable children
Children supported by social services
Children with EHC plans (Education, health and care plans)
Young carers
Looked after children
Disabled children

It is important to underline that schools remain safe places for children. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

At Greave we are committed to support our families at this difficult time and we are confident that we can staff the school to provide provision for those who need it.

In order for us to do so we ask that you call school today before 12pm if you feel your child or children fall within any of the categories and let us know exactly what provision you will need to facilitate your working arrangements. I can then make the necessary decisions and communicate back with each family before the 3pm to confirm arrangements for next week.

If you are unsure as to whether you will meet the criteria but feel you require support next week please contact school and we will review these requests on a case by case basis.

Whilst I anticipate this closure will continue beyond next week, my priority is that we establish numbers for the forthcoming week.

Many have asked about the Easter break and what the school can offer. At this stage I cannot give any guarantees but based on current staffing levels I envisage that we will still have adequate cover to support those that require the provision. I will write again as soon as I have any further information.

Kind regards

Home Learning - 19th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Your child will come home today with a home learning pack. Whilst there are many uncertainties regarding length of school closures we want to ensure we are as prepared as possible. The contents of the pack include some of the work that we will be setting as part of our home learning strategy. Please do not complete any of the work within the books until you are guided to do so as these will form part of a lesson sequence.

To access the home learning set for each child you will need to log on to the school website.

Please see the attached ‘How to Guide” which contains step by step instructions. Any problems accessing the web page please email jennie.williams@greave.stockport.sch.uk

Alongside daily activities you will also find on each class page, project work has been set, e.g. Geography, Art etc. The aim of these activities is for you to complete as you wish over the duration of the absence.

Whilst it is a recommendation that the work set is completed, the volume of work undertaken is completely at your discretion. If you feel any task is inappropriate for your child to complete then please don’t, learning should still be fun and enjoyable for all!

For those children who are currently self-isolating or not in school these packs will be hand delivered to you by members of Staff, Governors and the PTA.

During school closure we will communicate with you via your nominated email contact, to help support us with communication we ask that you check this regularly.

Thank you again for your continued support at this challenging time.

Kind regards

How to Access your Child's Home Learning on the School Website

School Closure - 19th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Following on from my last update, I’m now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories. Please contact the school office on 0161 430 6318 if you feel the recommendations may apply to your family. We’ll be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by email and post alerts on the school website

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to support your child to learn.

The children will return today with a home learning resource pack. Some of these materials will be used to as part of daily activities. These will be set via the class specific pages on the school website. More details will be sent within the resource packs

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this, with support from a scheme that the government has just announced.

What we won’t be able to go ahead with

School trips
Outside agency clubs - Football etc.
Music lessons and French club

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with us as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

From Monday onwards If you want to get in touch to share any concerns, please don’t hesitate to do so via email or phone: Jennie.williams@greave.stockport.sch.uk or 07383431486

And remember: if you or your child feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

Kind regards

Mrs J Williams
Headteacher

Coronavirus Update - 18th March 2020

Dear Parents & Carers,

I am writing to you with an update on the guidance given regarding absence from school due to symptoms of the Coronavirus.

As before, please follow the government guidance from Public Health England https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

If your child/children or anyone in your immediate family presents with any cough and/or temperature then the entire family must self-isolate for fourteen days with immediate effect.

We are currently reviewing the strategy for children accessing work at home.  You will understand that the rate of change and numbers of children we are managing is significant and we need to plan for this effectively.

In the meantime, it would be a good opportunity for children to continue to read books or have them read to them as appropriate/available.

We will keep you updated as we receive more information.

 Kind regards
