Parent Governor Vacancy

Dear Parent/Carer

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION

I wrote to you on 26th February 2021 to invite nominations for the vacancies for parent governors.

I am delighted to say that there has been a really good response and there are seven candidates that have applied for the vacancy.  This means we must now hold a ballot.

Attached to this letter is:

  • a ballot paper with the names of the candidates (in alphabetical order)
  • a copy of the personal statements from the candidates who are;

Phillip Davies

Carly Egan

Sarah Haley

Claire Pickering

Tom Sellers

Jasjeet Singh

Christopher Wales

Please note that candidate information is also available on the school web site.

You may vote for one of the candidates. Each parent can submit one ballot paper, regardless of the number of pupils you have attending the school. As indicated on the ballot paper you should vote by marking an X alongside the name(s) of the parent you support.

Once you have marked the ballot paper you should return it back to school in the sealed envelope provided via the ballot post box in the school foyer by no later than 12:00pm on Friday 19th.

The election will be decided by a simple majority of votes cast. In the event of a tie, lots will be drawn.

When the election has been completed, I will let you know the outcome. If in the meantime you have any queries, please contact the school office office@greave.stockport.sch.uk.

Yours faithfully,

Headteacher (Returning Officer)

I’d love to be able to play a part in the future of the school, helping shape and contribute to its success. Having witnessed the positive impact the school has on children, it’s importance in our local community and the way in which the school and its staff have handled the last 12 months, it’s clear how much hard work goes into maintaining the status and performance of the school. It’s for that reason I would like to be involved; to give something back, to ensure that the years to come are as successful, if not even more successful, than those that have passed and moreover to ensure every child graduating Greave is as best equipped for life ahead as they can be.

In addition to 15+ years management experience in Financial Services, I have also worked with children over the last 20+ years, running sports and football camps, and teams, in America and the UK over a period of 10+ years, and more latterly supporting a financial education run by Lloyds Banking Group, to deliver financial education lessons to high school aged children. Having led a number of different business units and teams in Financial Services, I am fortunate enough to have a deep understanding of creating and delivering strategic plans, managing high value P&L’s (Inc. a c.£500m P&L) and harnessing data and insight to drive performance. It’s these skills and experiences that I believe I could use to have a positive impact on the school.

As a secondary school teacher for over 12 years, I have a lot of experience of working in a secondary school and I would love to gain a deeper insight into Greave Primary.  As a curriculum leader of Mathematics I have to provide leadership and management oversee and coordinate the curriculum, my team, budget and resources and I am hoping I can transfer these skills to benefit Greave.

As a Mathematics teacher and being a curriculum leader interpreting data plays a large role along with being in charge of the Maths budget, recruiting new teachers, teaching assistants and one to one tutors.

I absolutely love being a teacher and I know how important education is.  I have a strong passion for ensuring every child gets the best possible education along with improving their social skills and providing life enhancing opportunities.

My daughter Sienna is currently in year 1 at Greave and I am hoping my second daughter Sofia will start Nursery this September.  I have been so impressed with the school, the team and its values and I love seeing my daughter flourishing and being so happy with her school life.

I would love an opportunity to become more involved in Greave and would be happy to help and contribute in any way I can.

I have two children at Greave (ages 4 and 9) and have always shown a keen interest in their learning and the school as a whole. I believe that having a parent on the board who can represent the parent community is imperative, especially in current times where the focus on our children’s education and mental health is more important than ever, along with the support available to parents. I am an open, honest and approachable person with good communication skills, and I have developed good relationships within the school community, with parents and teachers alike. I believe these are key attributes needed by a parent governor. I am passionate about the environment in which our children spend most of their time and would love the opportunity to be able to work with the school to help it continue to provide a safe, happy and secure environment for our children to thrive in.

I am a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor, I work in a reputable Stockport based firm, and prior to this I worked for one of the biggest four accountancy firms. I have worked in the industry since graduating from university approximately 14 years ago, and therefore I believe I possess the relevant skills required to effectively help on the board. My job first and foremost though is being the best mummy I can be to my children.

I have a little girl at Greave Primary School who is currently in Nursery. We live close to the school and love Greave School for its community feel, the nurturing atmosphere, supportive nature and the developing friendships that it has given us. I would love to give something in return, to support our school, as well as being an informed parent voice in decisions which affect all of our children for their future whilst at primary school.

This past year has been has been incredibly difficult for everybody, especially our children, who have shown great resilience, determination and positivity. Greave have offered fantastic support and have had mental health and well-being at the forefront of their agenda. It is evident that the children are at the heart of all the decision making processes: a school to be proud of and a school to be a part of.

I am a full-time working mum and Deputy Headteacher at a Primary School within Stockport and have over 20 years’ experience of teaching across the Early Years and Primary Curriculum. I believe that my understanding of leadership, governance, working with others and knowledge of changes and current issues in education would help me to contribute positively to the Governing Board at Greave. I would also love to re-pay the support that we have been given as parents.

I would offer my time and commitment to this role and endeavour to be an advocate for all stakeholders.

I have been associated with Greave Primary School for 25+ years and have a strong connection with the school and feel very passionately about striving to offer the best possible education to the pupils. I am a qualified teacher with almost 10 years’ experience of working in a variety of roles within education, from being a classroom teacher to working with local authorities.

My current role as Primary Education Manager at Manchester United Foundation allows me to work with schools, teachers and parent governors across Greater Manchester and a broad perspective of the education sector. We work closely with local authorities and education professionals and this gives me a good understanding of current trends and focuses in primary education.

I strongly believe that all pupils should have access to the best education and opportunities in their learning and would be delighted to have the opportunity to give something back to Greave and support the already outstanding school as a parent governor.

Jasjeet Singh

I have been keen on joining the parent governor team at Greave.

I hope that I can use my technical background (chemical and process engineer, principal consultant) to help primary school children and teachers to form a loving relationship with STEM subjects. Education brought me where I am, and I know how critical schools are to our future. I would love to use my expertise and love for STEM to assist the school in robust laying foundations for our children’s future.

I am a strong believer in the value and importance of a well-balanced education

I believe that learning outside of curriculum is as important as within it. Greave does an exceptional job, and I hope to add to it. I have mentored university engineering students for several years so working for Primary school is the next level up!

Also, my son goes to Greave, and my daughter will (hopefully) in couple of years. Greave is our family!
